Presenting Speaker: Pat Giles

  • Habitat Brewing 164 Broadway Street Asheville, NC 28801 (map)

The history of brand characters is an under-examined topic, but not for Pat. Pat has spent his career deeply involved with some of the world’s biggest ad icons. He has led the creative assignments for The Green Giant, The TRIX Rabbit, Lucky the Leprechaun, Sonny the Cuckoo Bird, The Pillsbury Doughboy, Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo-Berry, My Little Pony, and many more. Having this focus has given Pat a unique lens, and he will talk about the history of brand characters and their outsized influence on popular culture. Pat has also worked on characters internationally, and launched American icons like the TRIX Rabbit into China and India, learning some amazing insights about ourselves in the process of translating characters globally.

Characters can become the heart and should of a brand, and making people relate to a product or service on a deeply emotional level is at the heart of what great advertising can do. Pat will bring lots of fun footage, and present historical case studies that would make for an entertaining presentation.

Here’s an example of a deep dive into a character thought to be the first-ever cereal mascot, Sunny Jim!
